Sacred Heart Academy Visits the New York Stock Exchange

This year, Sacred Heart Academy partnered with Ocean Federal Financial Credit Union to bring Rock the Street, Wall Street program to SHA students.  The financial and investment literacy program includes an experiential trip to reinforce concepts learned.

SHA’s stock went through the roof when Sophomore, Mia Miller Weiss, shared a personal connection with Lynn Martin, president of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Ms. Martin is the second woman to hold this position. She generously offered to host a SHA group on the floor of the exchange for the closing bell.

Ms. Martin addressed 24 students in Siebert Hall, a space named for Muriel Siebert, the first woman to buy a seat and become a member of the New York Stock Exchange. Ms. Martin was impressed by the girls’ early interest in the financial world. She encouraged them to take advantage of all the opportunities. You never know what might influence your college major and ultimately your career choice.” She highlighted some of the benefits of their all-girls education at Sacred Heart, “It is an especially great place to build your confidence and your leadership skills. It also helps build a great network that will serve you well. The skills you build with people are the ones that will serve you best.” She said, “These young women are so impressive to me. They are the future.”

Alumnae instructors Jenn Calabrese ‘88, Suzanne Casey, Kara Shine Conroy ‘99, Alexandra Galgano ‘08, Lauren Manasia ‘11, Maureen McNally ‘02, Moira O’Connell ‘15, Alexandra Prophete ‘97, Laura Roche ‘88, Elizabeth Salagub ‘00, Anne Wynne ‘92, and Elizabeth Baulch Zullo ‘88 also joined the group as well as 2 members of the RTSWS board.
