Olivia Shuff '23 Published in Peer-reviewed Academic Journal

The independent research of yet another Class of 2023 SciRes scholar has found print.  Olivia Shuff's nursing/public health article, "Every breath you take: a study linking the relative efficacies of the asthma control test and the child asthma severity tool with the pulmonary function test" will appear in an academic journal this fall.

The editorial board of the Austin-based Journal of Research: High School, a peer-reviewed academic journal that "showcases the nation's best secondary research in all disciplines," has agreed to publish Ms. Shuff's study evaluating the effectiveness of a low-cost/user-friendly screening tool for pediatric asthmatics and their caregivers.

Olivia worked for nearly a year on the project, in Tennessee and New York. She was mentored by Tami Wyatt, R. N., Ph.D., and Stephen Sullivan, Ph.D. (Sacred Heart Academy's Research Director).  Now a first-year nursing student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Ms. Shuff has secured a permanent place in Dr. Wyatt's research lab "for as long as she's a student here."
