What is the key ingredient to being successful in school?
Having a sense of balance is an essential component of a successful educational career! Being hyper-focused on school can lead to burn out, so having other things to balance out the stress of school is quite important. Personally, I use music and my extracurricular clubs as a way to take a mental and physical break from schoolwork.

What are your future plans for college/life?
In the future, I hope to pursue a career in STEM, though I am not 100% sure exactly what that may entail at this particular moment. I'm interested in numerous paths, so I hope to explore these interests in college to get a better sense of what I would like to pursue professionally. In the future, I hope to one day serve as a role model for students who will one day be in the same shoes that I am in right now. This is especially important in STEM fields, in which women are often underrepresented.

What classes/extracurriculars benefited you the most? Why?
One class that has benefited me quite a bit is my research class. It's a four year program, so I've gotten to know my teacher, Dr. Sullivan, and my fellow classmates in the program very well over this period of time. I've learned incredibly valuable skills that I will continue to utilize in college. For instance, this past year, I submitted my very own research paper to the Regeneron competition, something I viewed as incredibly daunting and seemingly unachievable when I first started the research course in 9th grade.
In terms of extracurriculars, chamber ensemble and pit band have benefited me the most. In both clubs, I've been able to develop relationships with classmates of all grades, connected by a common interest in music. Both have taught me to be confident in holding my own, as the music we play typically involves having only one or two people to a part. In both clubs, I have been able to grow in confidence in my musical abilities, and create meaningful connections with others!

To whom or what do you owe your success?
I owe much of my success to my support system of friends and family. I'm incredibly blessed to have met an amazing group of friends during my time at SHA, and I can't say I've ever met a group as kind as them. They brighten my day the second I step foot into the building, they never fail to make me laugh, and I always know that they've got my back if I ever need anything. Similarly, my family is always there for me if I find myself getting overwhelmed with work and stress, and they always help guide me. I can walk in confidently to any situation because I know I have all of their support.

What do you consider your greatest achievement at SHA?
My greatest achievement at SHA is my acceptance to Cornell University. This was particularly rewarding because it felt like a way for me to honor the journey my grandparents embarked on about 50 years ago. They all left their home countries of Peru and China to come to the States with the hopes of starting a better life in the "land of opportunity." My first generation parents did not have much guidance during their pursuit of higher education, as my grandparents were unfamiliar with the process, having had limited educational opportunities themselves. So, personally, having the opportunity to pursue a path at Cornell is one I do not take for granted, and it allows me to continue my grandparents' American dream.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I've really enjoyed my time at SHA, and I'm excited to see where college will take me!
