Research by SHA Senior Accepted for Publication in Peer-Reviewed Academic Journal

WJP is the leading peer-reviewed journal for secondary behavioral science research. The editors receive over 500 submissions each year. Caroline's work is one of approximately eight to ten that will see print in 2022.

Caroline, a senior at SHA, tested the effects of slightly altering photographs of hypothetical targets on visual and cognitive perception. A brief summary of "When perception becomes reality..." is as follows:

"This study examined the relationship between attractiveness, typicality and trustworthiness. Most previous research has found strong links between attractiveness and likeability, but only a weak association between attractiveness and trustworthiness. We proposed that typicality would better predict perceived trustworthiness. It concluded that there is a strong link between trustworthiness and attractiveness and that the relationship between typicality and trustworthiness is nuanced."

Ms. Brucella's publication is Sacred Heart Academy's seventh such accomplishment in three years. Fiona Marren '20 and Sofia Di Scipio '20 were published in the Whitman Journal of Psychology in Fall 2020. Carmela Musso's, Sophia Fitzpatrick's and Erin Cooper's essays appeared in the Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 editions of the WJP. NYCSEAS published Cayla Midy's paper in July 2021
