Following Governor Cuomo’s statement on School reopening, Sacred Heart Academy will open at full capacity for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. This means that all students, faculty and staff will report to campus for in-person instruction every day. Classes will resume September 8, 2020. We strongly believe that in-person instruction offers the best academic opportunities, supports the social and emotional needs of our students, and fosters the unique aspects of the Sacred Heart Academy community. We also believe we can offer this in safe and compliant ways.
We have made this decision after significant consideration and careful review of the New York State guidelines and input from parents, faculty and staff. We have devised protocols and created proper policies to comply fully with the guidelines put forth by New York State and the Department of Health. With the support of the Board of Trustees, Sacred Heart Academy has also made significant financial investments to ensure that we have all the resources needed to reduce risk and instill confidence. A full plan is attached for your review.
The decision to return at full capacity requires the need to wear face coverings for a significant (possibly all of the) time in the School building. We have done everything possible to increase spaces for instruction, including the re-purposing of the faculty room, cafeteria and other spaces in addition to adding tents to the campus for outdoor opportunities. Despite these efforts, the physical limitations of the School building do NOT allow for the recommended mask-free space in all directions at all times. This means that all persons must wear a face covering when that distance is not possible.*
Parents and/or Students who do not wish or are unable to return to campus for either medical or other reasons, may elect to remain in a fully online learning model. These requests need to be made in writing and submitted to Sacred Heart Academy on or before August 15th. Requests can be sent to the principal via email at sjamore@sacredheartacademyli.
We will be monitoring the health of all community members closely. All of the required tracing protocols and training are in place so that we can respond immediately to any potential or confirmed COVID-19 related health cases. Details are in the attached plan. We will, of course, follow all of the guidelines on school closures and necessary quarantine procedures.
We have created scheduling models that can be implemented easily based on changing information and current data in our community. We will move swiftly to a different learning model if the health of the community is ever at risk.
These decisions have weighed heavily on our hearts and minds throughout the entire summer. We have done everything possible to evaluate options, consult with experts and be creative and responsive to the overall good of the community.
We expect that you will have clarifying questions. Please email any questions or concerns to firstname.lastname@example.org
We ask for your continued prayers as we all navigate through these times together.
