SHA takes first place at Northwell's Medical Marvels Research Competition!

Madelyn Boorman, Julia Dell'Aquilla, Chloe Kim & Sameera Rampertab's "Seeing Beyond the Spectrum: Enhancing Education through Autism Accommodations" was selected as Best Presentation from among the 25 finalist schools invited to the Feinstein Institute on April 10. Their enthusiastic presentation, and Captain Maddie Boorman's articulate answers to the judges' questions clearly won the day. The girls will share their well deserved monetary prize.

Presented by Northwell Health, students in grades 9 & 10 submit a research paper to participate in Medical Marvels.  Student teams are presented with a real-life issue in healthcare and must design a thorough public health campaign in order to create solutions to address the problem.

When Feinstein Research Associate Erin Boyle saw the girls' maroon uniform, she immediately asked if they would like to visit her leukemia lab after the competition. Awards in hand, the girls visited the third floor lab - freezers, centrifuges, incubators... "Wow! This is the second-best part of our day!" Ms. Boyle, SHA Class of 2001 just smiled. So did the four young scientists. It had been quite a day for Maddie, Julia, Chloe and Sameera. Well done, ladies. Congratulations, Dr. Feinman. #SHAwomenofscience
