Scholarship and Financial Aid Mission Statement
Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus and the Mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) is a Catholic college preparatory high school for young women. SHA is committed to creating a school community which supports our core values of spirituality, academic excellence, leadership, service, and community. We enroll and graduate a highly capable and diverse student body each year. We strive to make the SHA experience as affordable as possible for as many as possible by managing tuition costs. We are also committed to attracting and retaining the most talented student-scholars. To support these commitments, SHA is proud to offer a balance of various merit and need-based scholarship opportunities.
We believe that talented, confident young women-scholars raise the level of expectation and performance for all students. Each year, SHA manages a very talented applicant pool for the incoming class. We accept a cohort of students with strong leadership and academic potential who are required to complete a rigorous curriculum and earn a New York State Regents diploma with distinction. As a result, SHA’s merit scholarships are primarily directed to incoming students who have the highest performance on the TACHS exam.
We also believe that different experiences and perspectives shape and define SHA’s dynamic learning environment. Our commitment to financial aid is rooted in the belief that an inclusive school community enhances the educational experience of all students. We recognize that every family is different. In that spirit, Sacred Heart Academy is committed to a review of every financial aid applicant’s individual situation.
Merit-Based Scholarships
The St. Joseph Scholarship is the highest and most prestigious award offered to incoming students. This partial scholarship recognizes proven academic achievement as demonstrated on the Entrance Exam. A scholarship recipient must maintain honor roll status each year for her scholarship to be renewed.
Other partial scholarships are awarded at various levels each year based on the applicant pool.
Need-Based Scholarships
The Dear Neighbor Scholarship is a full tuition need-based scholarship awarded to an incoming 9th grade student student with preference to a young woman from the Hempstead/Uniondale/Roosevelt area who displays a desire, along with the academic ability, to succeed and become a contributing member of the Sacred Heart community. To be considered, an applicant must list Sacred Heart as her first choice school on the TACHS exam (Test for Admissions Into Catholic High Schools), have an 85% or above grade point average, complete a FAIR (Financial Aid Independent Review) application* and submit two letters of recommendation. The scholarship is renewable for all four years provided the student maintains a weighted grade point average of 85% or higher, maintains honor roll status each year, and is an active participant in the school community. Applicants who do not receive the Dear Neighbor Scholarship may still be eligible for Financial Aid. Please click here for the Dear Neighbor Scholarship Application.
