The Sacred Heart Indoor Track and Field Team had an exceptional afternoon at the CHSAA Intersectional Meet on Saturday.
Ellen Byrnes was named Track Athlete MVP of the meet for her double wins in the 300m and 600m.
She qualified for States with a win in the 300m after running a PR of 40.69. She also won the 600m in 1:35.90 qualifying for states in the second event. She will only compete in the 600m at States as per her choice due to scheduling of the meet.
Maggie Maier won the 3K in a meet record time of 10:00.74 (also a personal best), qualifying for States. The sophomore went on to run another PR (4:41.82), this time finishing in second place finish in the 1500 and qualifying for States for in a second event.
In addition to Maier, all of SHA’s participants in the 3k ran personal best times (PR): Anna Kavanagh (10:51.97), 5th place, Helen Moloney (10:55.50), 6th place, Shannon Thieke (11:13.22), 9th place, Marie Naudus (11:33.21), 13th place and Maeve Smith (11:52.88), 14th place.
Other top-five finishers at the meet included:
Alexandria Earle in high jump (5th place)
Melanie Galeano in triple jump (4th place)
Faith Kenny with a PR in the 55 (5th place)
Anna Kavanagh in the 3k (5th place)
Coaches Angela Mongitore and Kenny Coleman ran in a coaches SMR Relay teaming up with a Holy Trinity coach and a Kellenberg coach. Coach Mongitore led off and ran the 400 meter leg and Coach Coleman anchored the relay and ran the 800 meter leg.
Following the meet, the SHA team honored and celebrated the success of its three seniors: Ellen Byrnes, Palma Bauman, and Faith Kenny.
