Sister Joanne Forker, CSJ, Ed.D., Principal of Sacred Heart Academy, announced today that six scholastically talented seniors have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
Casey Leimbach has been named a Semifinalist in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Casey is one of approximately 16,000 students selected to advance in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Finalists will be notified in the spring.
Additionally, five Sacred Heart students have been named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Ellen C. Byrnes, Ashley L. Cameron, Ellie M. Kavanagh, Afia A. Kuragu, and Margot Varrichio were all presented with a Letter of Commendation from Sacred Heart and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program.
All six of the Sacred Heart students are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishment, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
