SHA's Quest for Peace Class Shares Virtual Experience with International Refugee

Ms. Lavery's Quest for Peace class partnered with NaTakallam, an organization powered by refugee talent and host communities, where members can learn new languages and cultural exchange services, to bring Syrian refugee, Haidara, into the classroom virtually.

A Syrian refugee who fled his hometown of Aleppo during the war, Haidara shared his experiences of fleeing and then acclimating to a new environment, and the hardships that are associated with re-establishing your life in the most difficult of circumstances.  Haidara, shared a slideshow of the landscape of his home country to the sophomores and explained that many historical landmarks and cities he once loved to visit are now destroyed. He also shared his passion for language and taught a few phrases in Arabic.

Ms. Lavery's Quest for Peace class looks at the work of the United Nations and Catholic teaching for a more peaceful world. Moments like these connect us to our brothers and sisters across the world and remind us that we have much more in common than differences!
