SHA Researchers Sweep 10th Grade; Earn both 1st and 2nd Place Medals at the 2022 NCC Science Fair

Sacred Heart Academy sophomores swept their age group at the 2022 Nassau Community College Science Fair, earning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Medals. The juniors secured the top two places in the “11th & 12th” grade division. This year's theme was "Explore the Possibilities."
 
Congratulations to all of our students who submitted their research in this competition.  
 
Below is a list of the winners and their research topics.
 
Grades 9-10
1st Place
Ava Guglielmo, Katherine Lynch & Kayla Palumbo:  "Are girls at an all-girls school who exhibit a ‘growth mindset’ more likely to pursue male-dominated careers?”
 
2nd Place
Kaitlyn Cole, Jacqueline Quinn & Alexandra Sim:  "The effects of heavy metal leaching on terrestrial invertebrates”
 
3rd Place
Sara DaSilva, Evalina Lentini & Kira Midy:  "Does the apple fall far from the tree?: Evaluating the transmission of political values from parents to their daughters”

Julia Revill: "The Crumb Rubber Conundrum”

Lauren McCarthy: "Menstrual cycle stigma among adolescent girls in same-sex vs. co-ed institutions”
