On March 19, 2019, the Sacred Heart Academy community gathered together to celebrate St. Joseph's Day through worship, song, and words of thanks to the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Fr. Tom Fusco from Our Lady of Victory parish in Floral Park led the congregation in Liturgy. Before the final blessing, seniors Christina Biscardi and Kellyne Vaudreuil gave their thoughts on the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of love, unity, reconciliation, justice and peace and how they have lived out the mission in their years of high school at Sacred Heart Academy.
"Here at SHA, everyone is committed to nurturing inclusive love, unity, reconciliation, justice and peace," Christina said in her speech. "How each of us has experienced this mission in our lives is probably as diverse and unique as each of us. For me, it has a lot to do with the inclusive love and unity found on a team. These past four years and my whole life, I have been part of many teams. My family and I are a team; my friends and I are a team; I am part of the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams; and I am part of the even bigger team here at Sacred Heart with all of you."
"As a school community, Sacred Heart Academy is ever evolving," Kellyne said in her speech. "From year to year, new and different aspects of our community are introduced, remolded, reshaped and adjusted. But throughout these changes, the mission of our school - to live with inclusive love, unity, reconciliation, peace and justice - remains at the center of who we are. At times, these core values may seem arbitrary or obscure in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, but in reality, they are embedded in acts as small as saying hello to each other in the hallway."
Following these words, the sisters at Sacred Heart Academy, S. Jean Amore, S. Eileen Brennan, and S. Pat Lynch, renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as Sisters of St. Joseph.
May we continue to live out the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph on this St. Joseph's Day and every day.
