Students in Speech and Debate write and deliver speeches and give an interpretation of literature through reading, act-out monologues, and write extemporaneous speeches. We compete against Chaminade, Syosset, Kellenberg, Half Hollow Hills, St. John the Baptist, Roslyn, Regis, Xavier, the Bronx High School of Science, Sacred Heart of the Convent (to name a few).
In 2016, Sacred Heart placed 10th in the nation for Declamation. Arielle Isedenu ’18 is 8th in the state for drama, Caitlin Duffy ’18 is a state semi-finalist for drama, Sara Campbell ’18 is a quarter finalist in the state for original oratory (she wrote and delivered her own speech) and Josette Peacock ’18 is 12th in the state for impromptu.
